Protecting Crum
The Aqua Pennsylvania drinking water plant on the Lower Crum Reservoir supplies 19 million gallons per day of drinking water. In addition, another 700,000 gallons per day is withdrawn from wells or other surface water intakes in the Watershed. These significant surface water withdrawals from Crum Creek, pollution in runoff from the 28 square mile source water drainage area to the reservoir, and conditions in the impoundments themselves all contribute to degradation of water quality of Crum Creek in the Lower Watershed.
These water supply and water quality issues have been analyzed in Watersheds, A Comprehensive Study (2001) by the Chester County Water Resources Authority, which covers Chester County’s watersheds, including all of the Crum Creek drainage area.
